I honestly have no idea what postive and negative space is, but if I had to guess I would say postive space is when the subject is the main attention, and negative space is where the background is the main attention. I like the 2nd picture of the two, the vibrant colors and the smoke from her cigarette really grab my attention. I feel like the background of the photo has such bright, vivid colors that it is very out there, I guess.

The negitive space in the first image is the black outline around the man standing in the doorway. Postive space would be the trees and nature.
ReplyDeleteThe first photo grave my attention because there is nature all around the photo except where he is standing.
And it makes it strong because of the contracts in the black and white colors. How it is all black around his back.

negitive space is like the negitive area around in the picture like the darker back round and positive is the area around that is brighter and catches your eye. The second picture really grabs my attention because its a lot brighter. The negative space in the second photo is really good because it really works in with the photo.

Negative space is what is out side of the focus point and positive space is what is inside the focus point. I like the one of the woman smoking because it has negative colors that complement each other (yellow and purple). In the positive space we have the woman in her purple coat and in the back we have the hazy yellow colors.

Negative space is the space around the thing you're taking a picture of and positive space is when the thing you're taking of is main focus. The bottom picture is really colorful and it's so focused on the one person rather than everything else around it. The smoke looks really cool and the shape of the person's body looks cool. The picture I chose really doesn't use any negative space, the person and the smoke is the entire focus of the picture.

Lets think of it this way. if you draw a square on a piece of paper, the outside of the square is the negative space while the inside of the square is the positive space. Like the second photo, the woman is the positive space while the faded background would be the negative space. As the photos background and its colors blend and complement the positive space.

Negative space in art refers to the space not occupied by something. Positive space is the opposite: the space occupied by something. In the black and white photo above, the contrast between the pitch black negative space, and the light outside stands out quite a bit to me. The photographer used the negative space of what I am assuming is the inside of a train car, to contrast with the outside train tracks and land scape.

Positive space is the part of the picture that is supposed to catch your attention, negative space is the rest of the photo that does not instantly catch our attention.
ReplyDeleteI picked the bottom photo because you can clearly see the man holding the cigarette is the positive space, while the negative space is the background that is out of focus as well.

Negative space in visual art refers to the blank, open space in the piece of art. Positive space is space that is being used. In the second photo the colors that are used in the negative space grab my attention. The brightness of the colors in the negative space are a focal point for me because most of the photo is done in darker colors except for the smoke. It is strong in terms of negative space because the positive space is in focus and the negative space is blurry so there is a lot of emphasis there.

Negative space and positive space has to do with how the picture is composed with the placement of things... The photo of the woman with the cigaret she's very laid back yet is posed in a particular way and making her a strong focal point in this photo.

Negative and positive space is the use of space in a photo.
ReplyDeleteThe second photo of the women with a cigarette stands out the most because of the colours that blend and compliment each other and the blurriness of the background and the smoke flaring out stands out most. The negative space is balanced with the rest of the photo.

The negative space is the space in the photograph that is void of objects, and can create a sense of depth. The positive space is the area the object or person in the photo. I chose the second photograph. The techniques I see are: rule of thirds for her position, contrast with the white floors and the colors, her body creates nice lines, there is movement from the bottom that follows her body to the cigarette and the smoke. There is an emphasis on her, as she is in selective focus it appears, and there is a unity by having her outfit be blue and purple, which coordinate to the background colors, as does the tone of her skin to the yellow and the black in her hair matching the black in the background. The lighting appears to come from above, lightening her hair and the smoke. It uses negative space by having the entire background and foreground have nothing in them but color, and having the upper right void of objects, using her as the positive space.

Negative space refers to the space in the photo not being used while positive space is the space being used.
ReplyDeleteThe second photo grabs my attention because the vibrant colors and especially selective focus.
The negative space used is full of colors that blur together. It makes the photo very intriguing and adds color contrast.

Negative space is the space around an object in the photo. Positive space his the area of a photo that an object occupies. The top photo grabs me because it makes me want to know more about where he is. It gives you a strong positive and negative space because your eyes go strait to the man.

The negative space in art is the main focus point, like the subject and the negative space in art refers to the background. "If you were to draw a circle the space inside the circle is the positive and the space outside of the circle is the negative space."
ReplyDeleteIn the first picture, the black and white one with the man on a train. Since is is off center and on the right line on the rule of thirds grid. Also what grabbed my attention is how the railroad leads my eyes through the photo.
A strong thing in the use of negative space is the bright contrast between the outside landscape and the inside of the boxcar. by doing that it brings out the features of the man in the boxcar.
Another thing that caught my eye was all the nature outside and the calm content look on the mans face.

The negative and positive space come together by putting bright colors together and they both compliment the art. The purple and yellowish orange come together and are well put together around the person. The negative space around the guy in black and white are put together well. I like how the line splits the outside world from the object where the guy is coming out.
ReplyDeletedeondre.c
The positive space would be the man standing on the train, and the negative space would be the tracks and the nature in the background. the picture of the man on the train caught my attention most because he's in a dark space looking out to a bright space.
